The historic Bellevue Hotel on Broad Street, constructed in 1904, was upgraded into a new powerhouse, mixed-use structure. The new building makeup includes 155 residences, several floors of office space, hotel rooms, a large ballroom, meeting rooms, fitness club, and retail.

The building encompasses two square blocks with the main façade on Broad Street between Walnut and Locust Streets.  With its ornate roof structures, the only way to access the full façade for major repairs was to erect scaffolding to cover the full expanse of the building.  Being located directly above the Broad Street Subway, weight restrictions were in place, allowing only 5 floors to be accessed at a time.

Armor was tasked with the full exterior renovation of the building.  Beginning with the roof repairs and the top floors, the team worked their way down the front building façade, performing terra cotta repairs and pointing and limestone repairs and pointing. In several areas, water tables were resloped for positive pitch to eliminate ponding water, deteriorating the exterior of the building and eventually causing leaking on the interior.  Once repairs were complete on each active section, the team performed cleaning of the entire building façade.

Prior to starting repairs, Armor Masonry worked closely with the Philadelphia Historic Commission to do probes, mockups and perform testing to find the appropriate materials to match the façade. Instead of having to replace the stone fully, the team was able to patch with a material that matched the existing stone for a great result.
